Present foreign language curricula make little use of translation; yet translation is integral to the cognitive process of foreign language learning. Drawing upon successful teaching practices in Arabic, a language taught primarily at the collegiate level, Mirena Christoff (Center for Language Studies) will make a case in favor of translation as a productive instructional technique that promotes students’ communicative aptitude and builds useful professional skills.
